Job Title: Non-Physician Provider - Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Clinical Nurse Specialist - Physician Assistant

JOB SUMMARY

The Non-Physician Provider (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Clinical Nurse Specialist or Physician Assistant) acting within their professional boundaries, will provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care. The Non-Physician Provider (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Clinical Nurse Specialist or Physician Assistant) authority, responsibility, and accountability is as follows:

1. To deliver a high standard of patient care as a Non-Physician Provider (NPP), using advanced autonomous clinical skills, and a broad and in-depth theoretical knowledge base
2. To manage a clinical caseload, dealing with presenting patient’s needs in a primary care setting
3. To develop the nursing services offered by the practice
4. To provide clinical leadership within the practice.
5. Education: Accountable for teaching patients new information.
6. Accountable for maintaining professional competencies.
7. Supports unit education through a variety of activities, such as precepting, unit in-services, and may also assist in organizational educational programs.
8. Communication: Is accountable for effective communication with patients/family, care team members and physicians regarding the patient’s progress on the plan of care and response to treatment.
9. Staff Development: Participates in the orientation of new employees. Oversees care assigned to paraprofessionals on the patient care team. Works in partnership with members of the team.
10. Quality: Implements plan of care/Clinical Pathways assuring progression toward quality outcomes. Participates in the development and monitoring of action plans to ensure performance improvement and regulatory compliance.
11. Collaboration: Collaborates with physicians and team members regarding changes in patient’s condition and revises the plan of care utilizing input of team members. Supports roles of all co-workers. Acts as a resource to the interdisciplinary team members for coordination of the plan of care, pathway and discharge planning. Maintains effective relationships with primary and consulting physicians.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. The Non-Physician Provider (NPP) Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist or Physician Assistant must have a valid state licensure as a Registered Nurse and an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, or Physician Assistant and be certified as a Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist by an approved certifying body.
2. Specifically privileged to practice clinical hyperbaric medicine in the sponsoring medical institution(s) under the process delineated by the institution’s privilege or credentialing committee.
3. The Advanced Registered Nurse is masters or doctorate prepared as a Nurse Practitioner (NP), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or Physician Assistant (PA). 
4. A current, or be eligible for, a DEA license in the state of practice.
5. Must hold current (BLS).
6. Must hold current (ACLS).
7. Must have documentation of successful completing of a 40-hour Introductory Hyperbaric Medicine Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) – approved Course.
8. Should have an interest in learning, practicing, and maintaining competency in the field of hyperbaric nursing.
9. Complete forty hours (40) of continuing education credits per previous four years, with at least twenty (20) of those credits in the field of hyperbaric oxygen therapy – Category A. 
10. Should have a working understanding of the codes and regulations that govern the operation of a hyperbaric medicine facility.
11. Should participate in professional organization.
12. Should be an active participant in education and leadership activities.

Secondary Responsibilities

1. Promotes services of the Hyperbaric Medicine Service to patients and community.
2. Is involved in or serves on the following: Unit Based Meetings, Department Education planning
   and implementing, acts as a preceptor to new staff and students.
3. In coordination with the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator develop policies and procedures
   for the Hyperbaric Medicine Service.
4. Will develop, on an ongoing basis, Quality Assurance (QA) models for the Hyperbaric Medicine Service.
5. Will provide monthly, quarterly and annual QA reports to the Program Director.
6. In coordination with the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator develop a continuing Quality Improvement program.

   alterations from normal parameters.
7. Demonstrates knowledge in utilization of complex technical patient care equipment.
8. Acts as a resource to the team, facilitation patient care activities and interdepartmental communication
   and collaboration.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education/Training

1. The Non Physician Provider (NPP) has completed a UHMS-approved Hyperbaric Medicine Introductory Course (a minimum of 40 hours on-site).
2. Specifically privileged to practice clinical hyperbaric medicine in the sponsoring medical institution(s) under the process delineated by the institution’s privilege or credentialing committee.
3. The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse is masters or doctorate prepared as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS).
4. The Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist must have possession of a valid state licensure as a Registered Nurse and an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, or Physician Assistant and be certified as a Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist by an approved certifying body.
5. Knowledge in medical claim billing preferred.
6. A current, or be eligible for, a DEA license in the state of Kansas.
7. Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse
8. Must hold a current nursing license in the state in which the nurse is practicing (certain government agencies may be exempt).
9. Must hold current (BLS).
10. Should hold (ACLS).
11. Must have documentation of successful completing of at least a 40 credit hour National Board of Diving
    and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) – approved Hyperbaric Medicine Introductory Course.
12. Should be a Clinical Hyperbaric Registered Nurse (CHRN), basic level (when eligible).
13. Should have an interest in learning, practicing, and maintaining competency in the field of hyperbaric nursing.
14. Complete forty hours (40) of continuing education credits per previous four years, with at least twenty (20) of those credits in the field of hyperbaric oxygen therapy – Category A.
15. Should have a working understanding of the codes and regulations that govern the operation of a hyperbaric medicine facility.
16. Should participate in professional organization.
17. Should be an active participant in education and leadership activities.

CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION

Complete forty hours (40) of continuing education credits per previous four years, with at least twenty (20) of those credits in the field of hyperbaric oxygen therapy – Category A.
