Product Information

Therapeutic Shoes for Persons with Diabetes are indicated for prevention of diabetic foot ulcers. They can be custom molded shoes, depth shoes or modifications of one of these two types. Custom molded shoe is made using a mold of your foot, with leather or other suitable material and has removable inserts. Depth shoe has a full length, heel-to-toe filler, is made of leather or other suitable material and is available in full or half sizes. Modifications include rigid rocker bottoms, roller bottoms, wedges, metatarsal bars , offset heels, flared heels. Therapeutic shoes are intended to be used continuously by persons with diabetes, including indoors.

Is it covered by Medicare Part B?

Medicare Part B covers specific therapeutic shoes (custom molded, depth shoe or specific modifications of one of these two types) if you have diabetes mellitus and one of the conditions: a. Previous amputation of the other foot, or part of either foot, or b. History of previous foot ulceration of either foot, or c. History of pre-ulcerative calluses of either foot, or d. Peripheral neuropathy with evidence of callus formation of either foot, or e. Foot deformity of either foot, or f. Poor circulation in either foot.

How can I purchase this product?

If you have coverage through Medicare Part B, you may be eligible to have this product covered by Medicare. You will need a written order prescribed by a provider enrolled in Medicare, so that you can purchase this product at a Durable Medical Equipment store that carries this type of product and accepts Medicare. You will need to pay deductibles and co-payment. The actual co-payment amount varies according to your state. If you do not have Medicare Part B or do not meet the requirements needed for coverage, you can find this product at pharmacies and medical supply stores.
