What protocols are out there for comfort care/palliative patients for the inpatient acute care setting?
Are there care-plans that are designed for comfort care/palliative care patients in the acute care setting?

Hi Grace

Thank you for your question. WoundReference topics follow a framework that helps clinicians assess wound healability, that is, the ability of a wound to undergo functional healing. This determination should be based on a comprehensive patient assessment, prior to setting appropriate goals of care and selecting treatment interventions. According to Sibbald, a wound can be categorized as healable, maintenance or non-healable (palliative care). Each topic contemplates wound care protocols for these categories, in the context of the etiology of the wound. See examples for diabetic foot ulcer, arterial ulcer, etc.

In addition to the protocols embedded in WoundReference topics, I'm also attaching an article that focuses on palliative wound care as well.

Hope this helps!
